What Would Guy Raz Do?

Once upon a time, not too long ago, we had two basic options for recording audio interviews: talk into a microphone connected to a tape recorder or into a microphone connected to software installed on a desktop computer.

Now, however, the Internet offers a surfeit of recording options. And the list of online recording services seems to get longer every day. So, faced with an overwhelming number of options, how should you decide which service to use?

Well, you could analyze your recording project and then look for services that might be a good fit. For example, if you simply need to interview a few people, Zoom or Google or Skype offer free or inexpensive options. But if you want to start a competitive podcast and make it available to everyone on the planet, you’ll need to consider services that offer everything from online recording to  to listings in podcast directories to global distribution. That’s where your choices tip into overwhelm: Libsyn, SquadCast, Zencastr, Podbean, Spreaker, Transistor, Captivate, Castos, Podcastics, Fusebox, Audioboom, Restream, Riverside, Buzzsprout, Anchor…

Or you could skip all that and ask, What would Guy Raz do?

To which Google replied: Riverside.Fm. Boom. Done.

Sure, it’s a celebrity endorsement. But think about it. https://www.guyraz.com/aboutGuy Raz has created an abundance of successful shows and podcasts, including Ted Radio Hour and How I Built This. So, why wouldn’t we listen to him?

Of course, there are lots of reasons why you should do your own research. But if you have too many other things to do, perhaps you should just ask a more succinct question.
